No More Hiding: Facing the Fear of Being Seen

Have you ever struggled with the fear of being seen – at work, in relationships, in your business or some other area in your life? If so, this post is for you.

I came up with the idea for She Owns Her Day in 2020—right in the height of the pandemic. Like so many others, I was reevaluating what mattered most to me. I knew I wanted to create something that inspired women to live more fully, to thrive, and to own their days with intention. While the vision felt clear in my mind, my actions haven’t always reflected that clarity.

Yes, I took small steps, made some progress, and even invested lots of money in coaches and consultants. But, progress still felt painfully slow, and deep down I knew what was holding me back.

Acknowledging the Fear of Being Seen

I was afraid. Not just of failure, but of being perceived. I felt exposed at the thought of trying and failing in front of others. I worried about promoting my work and being met with silence. Asking for support and receiving nothing in return felt terrifying. And maybe most of all, I feared that if I really gave it my all and still failed, it would confirm I wasn’t enough.

Rather than showing up boldly, I stayed small. I wrote blog posts but never promoted them, designed beautiful merch, but never told anyone it existed. I created content and let it sit unpublished. And on the rare occasion I did share something, I wasn’t consistent enough to gain momentum.

At the time, I told myself I was doing the best I could. But looking back, I see how much I was avoiding the fear of being seen. Some might call it self-sabotage, and honestly, I wouldn’t disagree.

Letting people witness your desires, your efforts, and your vulnerabilities? That’s an act of courage—and for a long time, I didn’t feel ready.

Moving Through the Fear of Being Seen

In the last few years, things have shifted. I’ve found myself in community women who actively bet on themselves—women who choose discomfort over regret. Women who show up for their dreams. They aren’t immune to the fear of being seen— in fact, they deal with it too. The difference? They don’t let it dictate their lives.

Seeing these women in action was a turning point for me. It taught me something important: courage doesn’t mean that fear disappears. Courage means you move forward anyway. It means you let yourself be seen, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Which brings me to today: Wednesday, May 7, 2025 — My official Day One.

Today, I posted on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok—publicly, intentionally, and yes, nervously. My stomach flipped. My inner critic had a lot to say. But I posted anyway.

Here’s where things stand so far:

  • YouTube: 1 view, 1 like
  • TikTok: 283 views, 33 likes
  • Instagram: 35 views, 10 likes

Are these numbers impressive? Not really. But they are mine. They represent a decision to act boldly instead of hide. And that makes them powerful.

I’m committing to being visiblevulnerable, and seen. Even when it’s scary. Especially when it’s scary. Because I know there are women out there—maybe even you—who are sitting on ideas, passions, and purpose but are afraid to take the next step.

What I’m Learning About the Fear of Being Seen

If you’ve also been holding yourself back, know this: you’re not alone. The fear of being seen is real, but it doesn’t have to rule your life.

Here’s what I’m learning from showing up scared:

  1. Your fear doesn’t mean you’re not ready. It just means you’re human. Move anyway.
  2. Start where you are, not where you wish you were. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
  3. Post it anyway. Even if only a handful of people see it. Even if you feel exposed. Do it for the version of you who’s tired of hiding.
  4. You don’t need everyone to get it—just the right people. And they can’t find you if you don’t share your work.
  5. The beginning will feel small. Celebrate it anyway. Growth starts with making the decision to begin.

An Invitation to Start Again

If you’ve been holding yourself back, silencing your voice, or waiting until you feel “ready” – this is your sign. I invite you to make this your Day One too. Or your Day One again. There’s no shame in beginning again. Only strength and fortitude.

If She Owns Her Day resonates with you, let’s walk this path together. I’ll be posting more regularly on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram—come find me, say hi, and let’s support each other in choosing courage over comfort.

Here’s to facing fears. Here’s to honoring our inner callings and building the lives we’re meant to live – and being seen doing it.
